OJEMB Special Issue on “Multimodal Data Fusion and Digital Twins for Next-Generation Computer-Based Medical Systems”

The increasing availability of heterogeneous biomedical data—ranging from medical images, biosignals, genomics, laboratory results, electronic health records, and data from wearable and mobile devices—has created new opportunities for advanced computer-based medical systems. Integrating these diverse data sources into unified analytical frameworks is essential for enabling precision medicine, proactive healthcare, and personalized clinical decision support.

This Special Issue focuses on multimodal data fusion and digital twin technologies as core enablers of next-generation computer-based medical systems. It aims to highlight novel computational methods, system architectures, and real-world applications that leverage multimodal data to model patient-specific states, predict disease trajectories, and optimize diagnostic and therapeutic decisions. Particular emphasis is placed on clinically validated systems, scalable architectures, and solutions that demonstrate measurable impact in healthcare practice.

The Special Issue welcomes original and previously unpublished research contributions that address both methodological and applied aspects of multimodal medical systems. Submissions from academia, industry, healthcare providers, and large-scale national or international research projects are encouraged, especially those demonstrating deployment in clinical or operational environments.

In addition, the Special Issue welcomes extended versions of papers accepted for publication at the 39th IEEE International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems (CBMS 2026). Extended papers must include substantial new material, including both methodological developments and additional experimental results.
